Tom is our in-house expert on all things active. With a wealth of experience in an almost unreasonable amount of mountain sports, he is one of Mountain Air’s go-to pros on active gear, equipment and general advice for tackling whatever the mountain can throw at you.

How did you wind up in Verbier?

I came here in 2008 for my first Verbier winter. I was with a chalet company but that was just an excuse to be in the mountains. I had already done a Méribel season but I wanted the challenge of bigger mountains and more extreme experiences. I started with Mountain Air 7 years ago when they merged with All Mountain Rental.

What sport gives you the biggest buzz on the mountain?

Hard to say! I do quite a few - trail running, ski touring, paragliding, alpinism, downhill biking … I’d say trail running though as it’s probably where I’ve had the most success. I first made a podium in the Dents du Midi Ultra Marathon a few years ago and then twice on the podium for the Trail Grand St Bernard which finishes here in town.

What adventures do you have on the horizon?

I’m off to Norway this month. I was lucky to meet a guy who has a boat there so we’re off to sail the fjords, ski tour up steep couloirs and ski back down. It’s 10 days right up in the Arctic Circle so it should be pretty epic!

What is the one bit of gear you couldn’t live without?

My skis - Blizzard 0G 95s. I do everything on them - touring, skiing steeps and everything else. I absolutely recommend them for anyone looking for the one ski quiver!
